The history of Lumambayan and Pinamalayan used to begin with the legend of the rainbow with the accounts of the town before the Marinduque settlers either rejected or taken seriously. Local histories written identified the beginning of Lumambayan with the migration of the said settlers and typified the course of its development with the enterprises of settling Marinduque elites including Morenteโs, Madrigalโs, Benitezes, Aguiluchos and the Medinas. Nevertheless, the unavailability of sufficient historical records limits the written scope of its history.
No written records specify the exact year of migration but that could be decades before 1880, the year the settlement attempted to become a pueblo. The area after years of being an ecclesiastical district of Naujan became a town with Juan Morente, Sr. as the first Governadorcillo. In 1914 it re-became a barrio after the poblacion was transferred to the present site.
The history of Lumambayan passes with the same turning points like that of Pinamalayan being one in their first 20 years of political existence. It was the site where responses and commitment of the municipality to the 1898 revolution against Spain were affirmed. It sponsored the erstwhile defiant then conciliatory mood of the ruling class with the Americans and extends its version of resistance movement against the Japanese.
Lumambayan has its share of local history when it begun to live politically separate from Pinamalayan. The time of Galicano Pastorfide as Barangay Captain heightened that sense of being an individual entity with its own version of socio-political reconstruction and reorganization era burgeoned with the increasing socio-individual autonomy of the social setting.
Lumambayan today exists as the demunative comparison of the barrio in the past decades. It lost Ranzo, Banilad, Sta. Isabel and Guinhawa but it still retained the essence it embodied for years.
It will be remembered that Lumambayan was among the six original mother barangays of Pinamalayan. Hence, undoubtedly considered among the oldest Barangays. The list of local political leaders sprung from 1912 to present. The Roll of Honors is as follows:
๐น PLACIDO LACEDA (1917 - 1920)
๐น GALICANO MADRIGAL (1921 โ 1924)
๐น AGUSTIN MICIANO (1925 โ 1946)
๐น GALICANO PASTORFIDE (1947 โ 1980)
๐น ALFREDO LACEDA (1980 โ 1997)
๐น NOEL M. LACDANG (1997 โ 2004)
๐น ERNESTO SAPUNTO (2004 โ 2007)
๐น NOEL M. LACDANG (2007 โ Present)
The series of typoons in December 1993 instilled many sad memories among local residents. The flashfloods created havoc and immense damages to properties. Portions of road and beach front were washed-out and left an open spillway leading to the sea. Damages to infrastructure and the local fish industry were quite bad. Along power failure was experienced in the months that followed.
In the 2004 elections, Mr. Lacdang chooses to run as Sangguniang Bayan Member and lost. This provided the opportunity for Ernesto Sapunto to assume the post as Punong Barangay. During his term, concreting of several portions of roads was completed.
In the barangay election that followed (2007), Mr. Lacdang regained his post as Punong Barangay. This time he was elected as President of the Liga ng mga Barangay hence earning a seat in the Sangguniang Bayan as Ex-Officio member. Among the accomplishments in 2007 โ 2009 were the construction of comfort rooms, footbridges in Zones I and VII, concreting of road in Zone VI and street lighting. The folks believe that with his able leadership, the barangay has transformed into a clean, peaceful, beautiful and happy community
He remains as the barangay leader up to the present.
